Why It’s Critical to See a Chiropractor After Your Car Accident

Hey everyone. Dr. Roger Saias here, your chiropractor for car accidents in Philadelphia, PA. And this here is Dr. Nicholas Pables, one of our doctors in one of our offices.

Car Accident Chiropractic Care in Philadelphia, PA

And today we’re here to talk about and show you why it’s a great idea to see a chiropractor if you’ve been involved in a car accident. If you’re going about your normal routine, your daily routine and you’re going places that you normally go, you’re sitting at a traffic light one day, and out of nowhere, you get hit real hard from behind from another vehicle.

Maybe they push you into another car. But, either way, you just got hit, you’re stunned, you’re possibly confused, and you’re most certainly in disbelief that you were just involved in a car accident.

And I know Dr. Pables himself has experienced this very situation. It will definitely ruin your day, and it can really ruin years to come. Beyond calling the police to report the accident or calling your insurance company or maybe going to see your doctor, most people have no idea what to do to care for themselves if they’ve been in a car accident.

And what they don’t tell you at your medical doctor office, and what they don’t tell you typically at the hospital, is that it only takes five to ten miles an hour to cause damage to the spine and the soft tissue, the muscles, tendons, and ligaments that support the spine.

They don’t tell you these things. If nothing is broken on x-ray, if nothing is torn, they generally will send you home with an ice pack or a hot pack or prescription for a muscle relaxer or some other recommendation to help treat the symptoms.

Which, there’s nothing wrong with treating the symptoms. I’m sure when you are in a lot of pain, after your accident, you want to feel better as soon as possible.

So we understand that. But beyond that, if you don’t do something physical to help care for the spine, you can develop problems that cause future chronic issues later on down the road.

So what happens after an accident, if you don’t get the spine moving the way it should, you can develop scar tissue and adhesions in the joints as well as the soft tissue. And when this happens, the muscles and the things that are supposed to move your body don’t move very well.

So oftentimes patients will say they feel very stiff since they were in an accident; they don’t move the way they used to move. They don’t feel good. They’re in pain. They’re inflamed.

So, if you put off going to a chiropractor, you’re really setting yourself up for a possible failure down the road. One of the things that we do in the chiropractic visit is we analyze the function of the spine, so we wanna make sure that the spine itself is moving the way it should.

We’re also taking a look and feeling how the muscle, the soft tissue is moving, as well because if that’s not moving, we’re interested in that and we wanna improve the mobility of your soft tissue.

I’m gonna have Dr. Pables lie down on the table for a second. So when a patient is under our care, we wanna make sure that their whole body is moving, especially the areas that are injured in an accident. So primarily we’re concerned with the spine and all the muscles, tendons, and ligaments that support the spine.

Chiropractic Adjustments for Car Accident Trauma

So we can make chiropractic adjustments, which, one of the purposes of the adjustment is to figure out where the problem area is and introduce more movement back into something that’s not moving, such as the joint or, again, the soft tissue.

Some people can’t tolerate manual adjustment, so we’re able to use handheld instruments. We have manual adjusting tools. Some of the offices also have what we call a percussive instrument that puts a light, gentle force into an area that’s not moving well on the spine.

We also have different muscle therapy tools where we can get in deep into the muscles and try to help improve the range of motion of that soft tissue.

So if you’re watching this video and you’ve been involved in a car accident and you still haven’t done anything about it, whether it’s been a recent accident or whether it’s been an accident that’s lingering, the best thing to do is to drop us a comment or call one of our offices.

Let’s get you in. Let’s find out what’s going on with you. If you’re not feeling as good as you think you should and you’re not able to do the things that you wanna do or the things that you have to and need to do, then it’s time to go find out why.

So, again, call our office, drop us a comment, and we’ll see ya on the next video. My name’s Dr. Roger Saias, and have a great day.
