Hi there, Dr. Saias here, your chiropractor for whiplash in Philadelphia, PA. Today in this video I want to talk about whiplash and how we add PA Pain and Rehab work to help our patients overcome and eliminate many of the problems associated with whiplash injury.
So how do we do this? So imagine this: imagine you’re sitting at a traffic light waiting for the light to turn green when also the car behind you smacks into you really hard, pushing your entire car forward.
Whiplash Injury in Philadelphia, PA
But in that moment, your head is gonna whip backwards and forward. It looks like this: hit from behind, your heads going backwards, and then it’s gonna whip forwards. It can damage all the joints of the spine, specifically in the neck and the upper back. It can also damage the discs, the spinal cord inside can get damage as well as the spinal nerves that come off the spinal cord. And you can damage the muscles, tendons, and ligaments, virtually anywhere in your entire body, specifically in your upper back and neck region.
So what are we doing to help eliminate these problems? Because most of the patients that are going to come to see us with this type of trauma are experiencing neck pain, low back pain. And they may have numbness and tingling down their arms into their fingers. And they have burning pain down their leg. They have headaches. The list of whiplash symptoms is extensive.
And faster the car is going the more damage the human body’s gonna sustain.

So every new patient that comes into our office is going to undergo a comprehensive consultation and evaluation. We’re going to find out what problems that patient’s experiencing through consultation.
We want to understand how the patient was before the accident, and how they are now as a result of that accident.
We’re going to do an evaluation. We’re going to do a lot of different tests to the spine and to the muscles, tendons and ligaments to see what’s working and what’s not working so that we can customize a program that’s right for the individual patient.

Most of our patients are going to undergo chiropractic adjustments. Chiropractic adjustment is designed for the movement back into the spine back into the discs to improve the function, the overall mobility of the joints of the spine, which is going to improve your function, decrease symptoms, and decrease swelling. Which everybody wants.
We’re also going to do physical rehabilitation of the soft tissue. We’re going to teach our patients how to stretch the muscles, the tendons, the ligaments. We’re going to teach our patients how to strengthen those same structures so that we can be more stable so that they don’t develop problems down the road.
We also have an orthopedic surgeon on staff. We’re very lucky to have this doctor on our staff. And this doctor will evaluate all these patients who are injured in these car accidents to make sure that they’re getting the care that they need and that they’re not missing anything.
Sometimes this doctor will order additional tests or do additional procedures depending on what the patient is experiencing. We’re very fortunate to have that in our practice.
So it’s a multifaceted approach between the chiropractic adjustments, the physical rehabilitation, the potential medical care needed. And we also give out portable, durable medical equipment.
Some patients have severe strains sprains in their neck. We give out pillows and ice packs. And one device that is really great for pain management is a portable electrical muscle stimulation. This is a device that a patient can wear a good portion of the day to help control pain and control inflammation. It’s a great device.
