Hey everybody. Dr. Roger Saias here, your chiropractor for car accidents in Philadelphia, PA. Today I’m here with Dr. Joel Kerrick. He is one of our doctors on staff.

Today I’m going to talk about some of the things that our patients do in our offices to speed up the recovery after a whiplash injury or car accident in general.

So almost every single patient that we see when they come in, we are going to give them to teach them how to use an ice pack. A lot of times people are confused on whether they should use ice or heat after an accident.

When in doubt, ice is your friend.

So most often times patients come in with acute pain, they’re swollen and they’re inflamed. A cold compress will help cool that inflammation down, cool that swelling down, and it’s something that they could do over and over.

So we teach all of our patients how to use this at home, and it’s a great natural way to help control symptoms without the use of over-the-counter medications or other pain relievers. So ice is always your friend.

Another thing that we utilize in our office is muscle stimulation, so when patients come into the office, they’re often suffering from swollen muscles, swollen joints, they’re inflamed, they are in a lot of pain.

So when we utilize this device in the office, it’s another thing that we can do to help control their inflammation and their swelling. And after a certain point in time and care in our office, they can also go home with units so they can continue on with their treatment at home and continue to control their pain and inflammation without the use of drugs.

Other things that we do in the office, we will also move into more active types of care and rehabilitation and one of the most basic types of rehab is just teaching the patients how to do cervical range of motion exercises.

We can teach patients how to do major motion exercises and virtually any joint in the body. But most people after a whiplash injury are suffering from severe neck pain and stiffness. So we want to get those muscles, tendons and ligaments in the joints of the spine moving as quickly as possible.

So Joel will show his patients how to do basic forms of range of motion, just by, just simply

bending the head forward and bending the head backward and going side to side left ear to right ear and rotating left and right. And so we’ll teach the patients specific times that they should be holding these, how they should be progressing and then when the patients have it and they’re doing these at home, we can also progress them to a more advanced approach where we can introduce some resistance.

So the patients will also do this in the office. So as they progress through the cervical range of motion exercises on their own, they can add in the resistance.

So we’re always trying very hard to help rehabilitate the spine, to rehabilitate the soft tissue, to get your symptoms down as quickly as possible, which is why we use all these different tools at our office.

So these are some of the ways that we help control pain and speed up the recovery with our patients. My name is Dr. Roger Saias, I appreciate you watching this video, Please if you like,
