Hey everyone, my name is Dr. Roger Saias, your chiropractor for car accidents in Philadelphia, PA. In this video, I want to tell you about the five things you should know if you’ve been injured in a car accident in Philadelphia.

Car Accident Assessment in Philadelphia, PA

So number one, after a car accident, pain may not be your only symptom. Now it’s one of the most common things to suffer from pain after a car accident, but you can also develop things like numbness and tingling in your arms, down at your hands and your fingers.

You can also develop pain and numbness tingling in your legs. You can have low back pain. You could have things like jaw pain ringing in the ears, memory loss, confusion, fatigue. You can even develop things like headaches and depression.

So the list of symptoms associated with a car accident and a whiplash injury is a long list. So don’t be fooled. Pain may not be the only thing that you suffer from. And patients often tell us that even weeks, months, and even up to a year after their accident, things start popping up, so don’t be fooled. Pain might not be your only symptom.

Number two, low speed car accidents can cause bodily harm. So what does that mean? Because there’s a misconception out there. People think that if there wasn’t a lot of damage to the car, if the car that hit you, wasn’t going very fast.

The person inside is gonna be okay, well, studies show that the less damage you have to the car itself, the more damage that the body can sustain. So five to 10 miles an hour is all it takes to cause a whiplash injury. So if you’re hit at 20, 30, 40, 50 miles an hour, it’s gonna cause significant damage.

And the problems you’re gonna have are gonna go up exponentially, but don’t be fooled five to 10 miles an hour is all it takes to cause a whiplash injury and cause all the symptoms I just described previously.

Number three, bedrest, after a car accident may not be your best advice. So people usually have this kind of reaction that if they’re injured in a car accident and they’re hurting, they wanna go lay down.

They wanna relax, they wanna do nothing. But studies suggest that the more you, the quicker you get back to normal activities and get your body moving, the better you’re gonna end up in the end.

You know, a lot of times people don’t get their body moving enough and they end up with chronic problems far into the future stiffness, soreness, inflammation. So again, the quicker you can get your body moving. You know, it has to be, you know, up to your abilities, but the sooner you can do that, the better you’re gonna be in the long run.

Car Accident Recovery with Chiropractic in Philadelphia, PA

Number four accident recovery times can vary. So it’s not a cookie cutter, you know, if you get into an accident, this is how long it takes to get better. You know, there’s a lot of factors that play into it like age and your current level of health.

So we grade a whiplash injury. There’s three grades to it. There’s mild, moderate and severe. So if you get into a mild car accident, but you’re a little bit older and you’re not in the best of health, you may take longer to recover than someone who’s less, has, you know, the younger than you and has less problems.

And the same thing goes, you know, if you get into a severe car accident and you’re a healthy individual, it may not take as long to get better. So, you know, there’s so many different factors that play into recovery times, It’s not a one size fits all.

So keep that in mind.

Chiropractic Accident Care in Philadelphia, PA

And number five, chiropractic care is essential to your recovery after a car accident. Chiropractic deals with the spine, it deals with the nervous system. It deals with the muscles,

tendons and ligaments that also support and move the spine.

Chiropractic adjustments help put movement back into the joints that are most likely gonna be damaged after a whiplash injury, especially in the head and neck region, you know, oftentimes people experience pain. And then shoulder problems, again if chiropractic care is started really early on, especially right after your car accident, the chance of you having a better outcome in the end goes up, okay?

It doesn’t guarantee that you won’t have problems, but if you can introduce chiropractic and physical rehabilitation into your daily routine, after a car accident, then your chances of recovery are much better than those that don’t.
